These modern calligraphy invitations were perfect for James and Jeff’s formal wedding at the Castle Hill Inn in Newport, Rhode Island. Wedding invitations with calligraphy are often very traditional, but the contemporary lettering paired with the classic black and ecru color scheme added a modern twist to this custom invitation suite.

The star of this custom invitation suite was hand calligraphy by Nikki Meer of Made by Meer. The entire formal invitation featured her modern calligraphy script in black letterpress on thick, textured ecru paper.

The RSVP card featured spot calligraphy, along with these amazing hand drawn meal choice icons. I love how the details in the fish, wheat, and cow looked in letterpress!

A letterpress information insert provided accommodations details for Jeff and Jamie’s guests. This multipurpose wedding insert card also directed guests to their wedding website and gave brief travel details.

In addition to the wedding ceremony and reception, the couple invited guests to join them for a rehearsal dinner at Queen Anne’s Loft in Newport, Rhode Island.

We finished off the invitation suite with hand calligraphy for the envelopes. Calligraphy can be a splurge, but nothing compares to sending each of your guests a custom work of art!

I love how the spot calligraphy on the RSVP, information insert, and rehearsal dinner invitation tied all the pieces together! Paired with a traditional serif font, this suite was a mix of modern and formal.
