Letterpress Wedding Invitations
WHAT IS LETTERPRESS?
Letterpress is an artisan printing method that results in a deep impression on soft cotton paper. It's a time honored technique, making it perfectly suited to producing classic letterpress wedding invitations.
In letterpress printing, ink is transferred from a raised surface (a printing plate) to paper using pressure. A custom plate is created for each ink color, then paper is hand fed through an antique printing press one at a time.
Letterpress inks are mixed by hand, printing plates are manually aligned, and old presses have their quirks. This is all part of the beauty of letterpress and means that there will be slight variations between the pieces in your order.
Blind letterpress (also referred to as "blind impression", "embossing" or "debossing") is the technique of letterpress printing with an un-inked plate to press a design into the paper. The result is a subtle texture without color.

What can you print in letterpress?
Letterpress printing is best suited for one or two color designs with minimal ink coverage on soft cotton paper. I offer letterpress wedding invitations, inserts, envelopes, belly bands, and day of stationery. This collection showcases designs that are perfectly suited to letterpress printing! However I'm happy to adjust other designs to work with letterpress printing.
Letterpress inks are slightly transparent, so the paper color will impact the final look. Inks (including the metallic ones) appear matte when printed on cotton paper, so you'll want to go with foil stamping if you want a shiny gold or bright white.
You can learn more about the letterpress printing technique on the blog. I could go on and on about letterpress all day, so schedule a consultation if you want to hear more.
